Prime Minister Fumio Kishida Commences Gulf Tour in Abu Dhabi
Prime Minister Fumio Kishida embarked on his Gulf tour, arriving in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Monday. The visit focuses on securing energy supplies and presenting Japanese green technology as a solution. Kishida’s first stop was Abu Dhabi, where he held discussions with Emirati President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan.
Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Between UAE and Japan
During their meeting, Kishida and President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan explored avenues to strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between the UAE and Japan. To solidify this partnership, they signed several agreements encompassing various sectors, highlighting the commitment of both nations to collaboration.
Promotion of Japanese Green Technology and Net-Zero Transition
Japan is actively engaged in the development of greener and renewable energy technologies with the aim of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. Prime Minister Kishida will seize the opportunity to promote Japanese know-how during his visit to the UAE and other energy-producing countries. These efforts align with the global focus on a net-zero transition, particularly in preparation for the COP28 climate summit in Dubai.
UAE-Japan Business Forum and Future Collaborations
In addition to high-level discussions, Prime Minister Kishida is scheduled to participate in a UAE-Japan business forum. This platform will facilitate interactions between Japanese and Emirati companies, fostering economic ties and encouraging further collaborations in the fields of energy and green technology.
Strengthening Energy Cooperation with Saudi Arabia
Prior to his visit to the UAE, Prime Minister Kishida made a stop in Saudi Arabia, where he met with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Both leaders expressed their commitment to securing oil supplies for Japan and reaffirmed their cooperation in advancing clean hydrogen, ammonia, and recycled carbon fuels. They also launched the “Manar” initiative, designed to assist countries worldwide in their net-zero transitions.
Launch of Strategic Dialogue and Ensuring Secure Energy Supply
To deepen bilateral ties, Japan and Saudi Arabia have agreed to initiate a new strategic dialogue at the foreign minister level. This move reflects their mutual desire to enhance exchanges in politics, diplomacy, and security. The secure energy supply from the UAE, which provides a significant portion of Japan’s crude oil imports, has been pivotal to Japan’s economic growth for many years.
