Deep Tech’s Ascendance in Europe

For years, Europe’s tech sector remained in the shadows, overshadowed by trends like speedy groceries and crypto mania. However, it has resurfaced as a prominent vertical, encompassing domains such as quantum, space tech, robotics, and AI. With significant funding and growing maturity, these sectors are poised for substantial growth. In 2022, $18 billion in venture capital flowed into European tech startups – a two-fold increase from 2020.

Navigating Funding Trends

While 2022 saw a minor dip in funding compared to the previous year, the momentum continued. Q1 2023 witnessed a steady decline, according to Dealroom. Yet, the tide turned in Q2 2023, with deep tech emerging as the second most invested sector, securing a total of $3.6 billion. Notable recent funding feats include Ukrainian Zibra AI’s $500K, London’s AutogenAI’s $22.3 million, and Quench.AI’s $5 million.

Ganymed Robotics – Revolutionizing Orthopedic Surgery

At the forefront of this European tech surge is Paris-based Ganymed Robotics, founded by women. The company pioneers advanced AI and robotics for orthopedic surgeons, with its maiden product aiding Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA). This compact and intuitive surgical robotic assistant integrates seamlessly, enhancing orthopedic precision. The company extended its Series B round by nearly €15 million in the past year, backed by industry leaders like Bpifrance and Kurma Partners.

BotsAndUs (Now Dexory) – Reinventing Warehouse Operations

Dexory (formerly BotsAndUs), a game-changing robotics firm, aims to transform data collection in warehouses using autonomous robots and AI. By offering real-time insights into warehouse operations, these solutions empower businesses to make informed decisions in logistics and warehousing. The company’s modular and autonomous robots navigate warehouses seamlessly, tracking and managing goods efficiently. In 2022, Dexory secured $13 million in seed funding from investors including Lakestar and Maersk Growth.

Driving Innovation: European AI Disruptors in Focus

As Europe’s tech landscape blooms, these AI-focused innovators stand out. Their disruptive technologies are poised to redefine industries and spark transformation across sectors. With cutting-edge solutions and robust funding, these trailblazers are setting the stage for a dynamic future.

Navigating the Path Ahead

While deep tech faced funding fluctuations, its resurgence is evident. European AI pioneers are harnessing advanced technologies to reshape traditional sectors. As these innovators continue to make waves, deep tech’s impact on the continent’s technological landscape is bound to be lasting and transformative.
